As we settle into our new home on Washington Street (Hwy 89), we wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey and give you a glimpse into what makes our office unique.
Our Roots and Growth Over the Years:
The Star Valley office opened its doors in 1990 when Evan Simpson, one of the original owners of Sunrise Engineering, decided to bring his expertise back to his hometown. We started small in a cozy office space in a strip mall in Afton. However, with dedication and hard work, our office steadily grew, establishing itself as a significant player in civil engineering services. Our primary services include water, wastewater, site development, transportation, and drainage projects.
A Cozy Office Turned into a Thriving Service Center:
Over the years, we expanded our services beyond Star Valley, working with various municipalities and water and irrigation districts in Eastern Idaho, Northern Utah, and Western Wyoming. Our growth has been consistent, going from eight employees in 2000 to a team of fourteen dedicated professionals in 2023. We outgrew our original office, which was a renovated house on 4th Avenue, and decided to move into a new space on Washington Street. This move offers us more room to grow, increased visibility to the community, and a more professional and efficient workspace.

The breathtaking landscapes, with snowy winters and beautiful summers, make it an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise and a delightful place for engineering professionals to thrive. Our office atmosphere reflects the surrounding beauty – friendly, warm, and collaborative. We work as a team, supporting and celebrating each other’s successes.

Steadiness is our hallmark. As one of Sunrise Engineering’s service centers, we have been consistent in our growth, client base, and revenue. Our success wouldn’t have been possible without the support and trust of our clients, especially the Wyoming Water Development Commission (WWDC). Over the years, we have taken on numerous projects funded by WWDC, earning us the distinction of being the engineering company with the most WWDC projects in the last two decades.
Collaboration and Community Involvement:
At the heart of our office culture lies camaraderie and cooperation. We understand the importance of working together as a team, and we rely on various departments within Sunrise Engineering, including GIS, Survey, Electrical, Structural, Building and Safety, and Transportation, to ensure the success of our projects. Our commitment to the community goes beyond our engineering work. We actively participate in and sponsor local events, and our involvement with high school seniors through job shadowing and mock job interviews aims to inspire the next generation of engineers.
Work Hard, Play Hard:
While we take our projects seriously, we also know how to have fun! Our Monday morning staff meetings kick off with the “good news minute,” where we share personal stories and adventures. Our office traditions include summer parties at Bear Lake and engaging in various activities like white water rafting, golf, cornhole tournaments, and community service projects. We believe that a positive and supportive work environment enhances our productivity and creativity.
