Every successful engineering project begins long before construction starts. Before equipment arrives on site or concrete is poured, engineers and CAD professionals spend countless hours transforming ideas into accurate, coordinated plans. Those plans become the roadmap for construction, helping projects stay efficient, consistent, and high quality.
In recognition of National CAD Day on August 2, we’re highlighting the Sunrise Engineering Corporate CAD Committee and the important role it plays in supporting CAD users across the company. From developing company standards to implementing new training tools like Pinnacle, the committee helps ensure our teams have the resources they need to deliver exceptional work for our clients.
What Is the Sunrise Engineering Corporate CAD Committee?
The Corporate CAD Committee was created to establish and maintain company CAD standards while promoting collaboration, improving production efficiency, supporting employee development, and encouraging innovation through design technology.
The committee includes representatives from civil engineering, survey, natural gas, IT, EIC, and offices throughout Sunrise Engineering. Members are selected by Vice Presidents and Service Center Managers based on their CAD knowledge and communication skills, ensuring a broad range of expertise and perspectives.
Led by Committee Chair Chris Moore, the group works together to create consistency across the company while helping employees adapt to evolving technologies and industry best practices.
Why CAD Standards Matter
Every project is unique, but consistency is essential.
By establishing company-wide CAD standards and workflows, the committee helps employees work more efficiently, improves quality control, and makes collaboration between offices and disciplines more seamless. Standardized practices also make it easier to share projects, onboard new employees, and deliver a consistent experience for clients.
Beyond standards, the committee continually evaluates opportunities to improve workflows, explore new technology, strengthen document management, and encourage knowledge sharing throughout the company.
Supporting Employee Development with Pinnacle
One of the committee’s most significant recent initiatives has been implementing Pinnacle, Sunrise Engineering’s new company-wide CAD training and learning management system.
As Sunrise Engineering has grown, training naturally varied between offices, disciplines, and individual mentors. While those approaches provided valuable experience, the committee recognized the need for a centralized platform that would provide consistent training, software guidance, and best practices for every employee.
Pinnacle gives employees on demand access to structured learning paths, software-specific training, workflow guidance, and company standards in one convenient location. Instead of relying solely on one-on-one instruction or searching through scattered documents, employees can quickly find the answers and resources they need.
Building Skills at Every Experience Level
Pinnacle benefits employees regardless of where they are in their careers.
For new employees, the platform provides a clear path for learning Sunrise Engineering’s CAD standards, workflows, and software, helping shorten the learning curve and build confidence from day one.
For experienced CAD professionals, Pinnacle supports continuous learning through advanced topics, new software features, and evolving best practices. It encourages a culture of continuous improvement by giving employees opportunities to refine their skills and stay current with changing technology.
Collaboration That Benefits Every Project
The Corporate CAD Committee recognizes that the best ideas often come from employees working on projects every day. Feedback from CAD users across the company helps shape future standards, improve workflows, and identify opportunities for continued innovation.
Employees are encouraged to share questions, suggestions, or ideas for improvement with their local committee representative or by emailing CADCommittee@sunrise-eng.com.
Looking Ahead
As Sunrise Engineering continues to grow, the Corporate CAD Committee remains focused on creating consistency, improving efficiency, and supporting employee success. Through standardized workflows, collaborative problem solving, and investments in tools like Pinnacle, the committee helps ensure every project begins with a strong foundation.
Their work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact can be seen in every drawing, every design, and every successful project delivered to our clients.
