Spotlight on Sunrise Engineering’s St. George Office

Welcome to Sunrise Engineering’s St. George office, a hub of innovation, collaboration, and community spirit! Nestled in southern Utah, our office is a dynamic blend of youthful energy and seasoned expertise. Here’s a closer look at who we are, the exciting projects we undertake, and the unique culture that sets us apart.

Meet Our Team

The St. George office boasts a talented and diverse team of 23 professionals. Among them, 10 are Engineers-in-Training (EITs) or students, reflecting our commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers. Four team members have recently earned their Professional Engineer (PE) licenses, bringing fresh insights and innovative approaches to our projects. We have three experts in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), one specialist in the corporate service center, and a robust civil service team in Washington. Additionally, our team includes two full-time remote employees and two who split their time between the office and remote work.

Our team’s unique skills are a cornerstone of our success. Michaela, for instance, enhances our engineering projects with her GIS expertise, creating professional and precise exhibits. Recently, we welcomed two geotechnical experts from AGEC, significantly boosting our capabilities in that area. Our experienced staff, like Dustyn Shaffer, who brings over a quarter-century of local knowledge, are invaluable in maintaining strong client relationships and understanding regional needs.

Our Services and Projects

The St. George office offers a comprehensive range of services, covering most aspects of civil engineering except for natural gas. Our expertise includes water, irrigation, wastewater, storm drain, parks and recreation, transportation, site grading, development, construction observation, and planning services.

We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality projects that meet the specific needs of our clients. For example, we’ve been advancing the Mill Creek Trail design to 30% for Washington City and have a notable reputation for designing parks and pickleball courts. Recently, we expanded the Little Valley Pickleball Complex, adding more courts and a competition court with spectator seating.

Our approach sets us apart from other firms. Under the guidance of Joe Phillips, we strive to be the “path of least resistance” for our clients, providing comprehensive solutions that simplify their implementation process.

Office Culture and Traditions

Our positive and engaging work environment is one of our greatest strengths. The camaraderie among our staff, many of whom are at similar stages in life, fosters a cooperative and communicative atmosphere. Regular team-building activities, such as monthly lunches and parties, bring us together and provide a refreshing break from our daily routines. Recently, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a lunch from Don Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant and enjoyed playing Jackbox games in the conference room.

Client Relationships and Success Stories

Building and maintaining strong client relationships is a priority for us. Our office has longstanding partnerships with key clients such as Washington City, Kane County Water Conservancy District (WCD), and Ash Creek Special Service District (SSD). We serve as the city engineer for several local communities and perform engineering services across multiple states.

One notable success story involves a project for Washington City. When a developer’s plans for a new development included inadequate piping, our team quickly re-evaluated the design, identified necessary changes, and ensured compliance within a week. This swift and effective solution helped the City stay on schedule and maintain the project’s momentum.

Community Involvement

Our commitment to community extends beyond our engineering projects. A memorable example is our response to the Enoch flood in 2021. After a severe thunderstorm caused significant flooding, our entire office closed for a day to assist with the cleanup. We spent hours in muddy basements, helping residents clear debris and restore their homes. This experience not only brought our team closer together but also reinforced our dedication to making a positive impact in our community.

A Word from Joe Phillips

“I couldn’t be more pleased than I am with the St. George facility team. Each individual is remarkable; each has their own unique talents, and each contributes in a meaningful way. It’s impressive to see how the team collaborates to bring specific strengths to the forefront. We’re very blessed to have the group we have and I look forward to seeing how we grow into the future.”
