From Funding to Impact: Community Projects in Motion

Sunrise Engineering’s funding services support a wide range of projects, from recreation facilities to critical water infrastructure. Two recent projects illustrate how funding assistance helps communities move forward, even when needs and project types differ significantly.

Mapleton Bike Park

The Mapleton Bike Park is a large, regionally significant recreation project with a cost that exceeded the City’s available funds. From the outset, securing grant funding was essential for the project to move forward at its intended scale.

Due to project timing and scope, there was one primary funding opportunity that made sense. Sunrise identified the appropriate funding source and initiated conversations with agency staff early, even before being selected for the project. Once under contract, Sunrise guided the City through the application process.

As a result, Mapleton secured $1.5 million in grant funding through the Utah Outdoor Recreation Initiative Grant, administered by the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. This funding was critical to advancing the project and demonstrates the value of early coordination, agency relationships, and funding expertise.

The Bike Park also reflects the long-term benefits of strong partnerships. Sunrise previously helped Mapleton secure grant funding for the Ira Allen Pickleball Courts. That prior success positioned Sunrise as a trusted partner and contributed to the City’s confidence in selecting the team again.

Wanship Mutual Water Company

Wanship Mutual Water Company represents a very different but equally important funding story. The small system needed to evaluate existing deficiencies, future growth impacts, and infrastructure upgrades. Funding was required just to complete the water master plan.

Sunrise identified the Utah Division of Drinking Water as the best funding option and prepared and submitted the funding application on behalf of the water company, working closely with the client to gather required financial and system information.

The master plan is now complete and has identified several critical improvements. Funding for these improvements has since been approved through the Federal State Revolving Fund program. Design is underway, and construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026.

Together, these two projects highlight the diversity of Sunrise’s grants and funding services. While the projects differ in scope and purpose, the funding process remains consistent. Sunrise helps communities identify opportunities, secure funding, and move projects from planning to construction.
